The field guide to San Francisco's dog parks.

Francisco Park

San Francisco's newest park, Francisco Park opened in April 2022 on the site of the historic Francisco Reservoir. This 4.5-acre gem features multiple terraced levels with the dedicated dog play area on the lower section, offering some of the most breathtaking views of any dog park in the city.

Terrain & Layout

The fenced dog area sits on the lower terrace of the 4.5-acre park, with high-quality grass that's regularly maintained and concrete paths surrounding the play area. The terraced design creates a multi-level experience, and the enclosed space keeps dogs secure while they enjoy panoramic views of the San Francisco Bay, Alcatraz Island, and the Golden Gate Bridge. ADA-accessible pathways connect all levels of the park.

Amenities

  • Seating: Benches and stone ledges throughout the dog area
  • Water: Water fountain for humans and a dedicated dog fountain
  • Parking: Street parking available in the Russian Hill and North Beach neighborhoods
  • Restrooms: Available within the park
  • Lighting: Modern LED lighting for evening visits

Best For

Dogs who enjoy grassy, enclosed play spaces with moderate room to run. The fenced area and manageable size make it great for dogs still working on recall.

Busy Times

Weekday mornings and late afternoons tend to be quieter. Weekends and sunny evenings draw larger crowds, especially given the park's popularity as one of SF's newest green spaces.

Tips

  • Arrive early on weekends to enjoy the views without crowds
  • The terraced layout means some walking between levels — wear comfortable shoes
  • Bring a camera — the bay views from the dog area are spectacular
