Some helpful info about San Francisco's dog parks.

U.N. Plaza Dog Park

U.N. Plaza Dog Park is the only fully-fenced dog play area in the Civic Center neighborhood, located at 355 McAllister Street just north of the UN Plaza fountain. With lush green turf, shade coverage, agility features, and seasonal free community events, it fills an important role for a neighborhood that has historically lacked dedicated off-leash dog space.

Terrain & Layout

This compact, fully fenced park features a lush artificial turf surface that stays green and clean year-round. Shade structures provide cover from the sun, making midday visits comfortable even on warmer days. Dog agility features — including ramps and obstacles — are integrated into the layout, giving active dogs an outlet for their energy beyond simple running and socializing. The small footprint makes efficient use of the urban space.

Amenities

  • Seating: Benches placed within the fenced area for owners
  • Water: Bring your own — no water facilities on-site
  • Parking: Street parking and metered spots in the Civic Center area; public transit is the easiest option
  • Restrooms: Available nearby in the Civic Center area
  • Lighting: The park is open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily
  • Events: Seasonal free community events throughout the year

Best For

Downtown workers and Civic Center residents who need a convenient, secure off-leash spot. The agility features add stimulation for active dogs, and the fenced enclosure is ideal for dogs still building recall skills. The compact size makes it perfect for quick exercise sessions.

Busy Times

Lunch hours on weekdays are the busiest as downtown workers bring their dogs for a midday break. Morning hours right after opening tend to be quieter. The park closes at 5 p.m., so evening visits are not an option.

Tips

  • Bring water for your dog — there are no water facilities on-site
  • The central location near City Hall is accessible by BART (Civic Center station), Muni, and multiple bus lines
  • Check for seasonal community events — they're free and a great way to socialize your dog
